If you are installing OpenMediaVault on a Raspberry Pi chances are you are running the operating system off an SD card. SD cards are great for read only access by they will quickly wear out and die if they get a lot of writes. OMV causes a lot of write operations when generating the graphics displayed on the interface. Fortunately there’s a plugin for that will almost totally eliminate these writes to the SD card and it’s called “openmediavault-flashmemory”.
Before you install openmediavault-flashmemory you need to make sure OMV-Extras is installed as it comes which that. Assuming OMV-Extras is installed simply go to the System > Plugins page and select openmediavault-flashmemory then click install (at the top of the page). Once the installation is complete restart the server.
If the installation has worked and you have the Services dashboard widget selection you should see a FlashMemory entry with ticks under Enabled and Running.
